This might be what was called a sheet blanket, used as batting.

Notes about this quilt:

This was in my maternal grandmother's house, so it may have been made by her or a relative of hers. On close inspection, the quilt top was pieced by machine, not by hand. The batting looks almost like kitchen towel material, so it may have been a cheap remnant or even an old blanket. It was tied with yarn, perhaps it was red at one time but now it is an odd shade of pink.

As you can see in the photos, there is significant damage to a few blocks and smaller damage throughout the rest of the quilt. Popped seams are abundant, as well as ripped fabric. It appears as though this was a utility quilt in the best sense... it has been worked to death. I do not believe I can salvage it, but one day I would like to make a reproduction of it.
